SCANIA
Future room
CREATIVE
Unlike other brands Scania have a plan for the future and a road map to get there. Having just completed two new prototypes, both automated self-driving vehicles, they were looking for a new way to showcase their thinking. They were losing future talent to some of the world's tech giants. This Scandinavian brain drain is becoming an increasing problem for the Nordic powerhouses. They need to get a dog in the fight. Our answer was simple:
‘To create the future, first you must imagine it.’
We looked at where the future talent audience gets their nourishment. With fictional narratives drawing a huge sway. We looked to create a series of future-focused tails, both realistic and positive. We commissioned a series of stories from visionary genre directors, writers and futurists including film-maker Jennifer Sheridan and game narrative designer Leigh Alexander.
Our aim was to create an episodic series of films, audiobooks and long-form stories exploring themes relevant to a hopeful future. The first stories, ‘Travelooper’ by Jennifer Sheridan and ‘Heroes’, a short story by Leigh Alexander are supported by a round table on ‘Future Cities’ which explores how life in future cities could improve our wellbeing and sense of connection to one another. The themes of these stories are further explored within parallel film and podcast content featuring futurist Adah Parris, alongside Scania’s visionary Hakan Schildt and social entrepreneur Jean Rose. The campaign was a success, with Travelooper amassing 350k views without any media budget through us placing the film on DUST, a digital short film platform.
Welcome to Expanded Horizons, presented by Scania. A unique collection of near-future stories and in-depth round table discussions inspired by future cities, automation and collaboration. When visionaries and storytellers explore ideas about city design, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and the power of collaboration, you might expect it to result in science fiction.
